Mikhail Kalashnikov and the AK-47

from: http://www.downrange.tv/blog/mikhail-kalashnikov-and-the-ak-47/26904/

It’s been said that the history of weapons is indeed the history of the world. Maybe a bit of an overstatement, but certainly true in the case of the Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947, the AK-47. I’s a rifle that has quite literary reshaped the world. Mikhail Kalashnikov, whose work as a weapons designer for the Soviet Union is immortalized in the name of the world’s most popular firearm, has died at the age of 94.

Phil Robertson put on indefinite "hiatus" by A&E

Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the backwater Louisiana clan on the reality show about hunting, fishing and domestic squabbles, was put on indefinite "hiatus" by A&E for his remarks to GQ magazine characterizing homosexuality as sinful behavior.

"Duck Dynasty" family members say they are considering withdrawing from the series over A&E's suspension of patriarch Phil Robertson for anti-gay comments, joining many conservatives leaping to his defense.

DOJ internal memo confirms Obama plan for gun confiscation

from: http://www.examiner.com/article/doj-internal-memo-confirms-obama-plan-for-gun-confiscation?goback=%2Egde_2759183_member_5809452524205268995#%21

An internal memo within the Department of Justice (DOJ) has surfaced which confirms that the Obama administration had plans for gun registration and confiscation in the aftermath of the Newtown school shooting.

According to Bob Owens, the NRA obtained the memo in February. But apparently there were questions as to the veracity of the information. Owens says that the existence of the memo, and its outline of a plan for gun registration and confiscation, can now be confirmed.

The document, which can be viewed here (http://static.infowars.com/2013/02/i/general/nij-gun-policy-memo.pdf), was not released to the public via the news media.

From the article in US News:

Andrew Papachristos, an associate professor of sociology at Yale, analyzed police and gun homicide records from 2006 to 2011 for people living in a high-crime neighborhood in Chicago. He found that 41 percent of all gun homicides occurred within a network of less than 4 percent of the neighborhood’s population, and that the closer one is connected to a homicide victim, the greater that person’s chances were for becoming a victim. Each social tie removed from a homicide victim decreased a person’s odds of becoming a victim by 57 percent.

So, in other words, you can reduce your risk of being murdered by over 50% simply by avoiding the murdering crowd. Or I suppose you could move out of Chicago, which would help too.

A good thing to know and understand!

Five Beans in the Wheel

from: Sheriff Jim Wilson
http://sheriffjimwilson.com/2012/07/05/five-beans-in-the-wheel/

There is something important that folks need to know about traditional single-action revolvers (the exception being the newer guns with transfer-bar safeties, like the New Model Rugers). If you load all of the chambers in the cylinder and the gun is dropped on its hammer, said gun will more than likely go off. Of course, there is a safety notch on the hammer, but this is a thin piece of steel that will generally break when the gun is dropped. Wyatt Earp and Oliver Lee were just two of the Old West gunmen that learned this lesson the hard way.

FIVE BEANS IN THE WHEEL: load one, skip one, load four more, bring the hammer to full cock, and slowly lower it onto the empty chamber.

Birth of the U.S. Marine Corps

Happy Birthday - 238

Nov 10, 1775:

During the American Revolution, the Continental Congress passes a resolution stating that "two Battalions of Marines be raised" for service as landing forces for the recently formed Continental Navy. The resolution, drafted by future U.S. president John Adams and adopted in Philadelphia, created the Continental Marines and is now observed as the birth date of the United States Marine Corps.

Serving on land and at sea, the original U.S. Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations during the Revolutionary War. The first Marine landing on a hostile shore occurred when a force of Marines under Captain Samuel Nicholas captured New Province Island in the Bahamas from the British in March 1776. Nicholas was the first commissioned officer in the Continental Marines and is celebrated as the first Marine commandant. After American independence was achieved in 1783, the Continental Navy was demobilized and its Marines disbanded.

In the next decade, however, increasing conflict at sea with Revolutionary France led the U.S. Congress to establish formally the U.S. Navy in May 1798. Two months later, on July 11, President John Adams signed the bill establishing the U.S. Marine Corps as a permanent military force under the jurisdiction of the Department of Navy.

Marines expeditionary units are self-sufficient, with their own tanks, artillery, and air forces. The motto of the service is Semper Fidelis, meaning "Always Faithful" in Latin.

Metcalf's Respons: What??!!

Metcalf's Respons: What??!!

LAME, LAME, LAME

Suggest that you read the following blogs:

#1: http://michaelbane.blogspot.com/

#2: http://www.pagunblog.com/2013/11/08/dick-metcalf-response-to-his-firing-from-guns-ammo/

Published, quite properly, by Jim Shepherd in THE SHOOTING WIRE - in my opionion not good at all for a seasoned writer!

Quote from Michael Bane: "This is not, as Bitter so lucidly notes, a "free speech" issue. Let me go a step farther than that...as I noted in my earlier post, we have been having a "dialog" about the role of firearms in American society at least as long as I've been alive. IMHO, the "dialog" ended when the war began.

Let me say this again...we are at war with a segment of society whose sole goal is total civilian disarmament. We are not in a dialog. We are not in a debate. We are not in a healthy give-and-take in the Cornell University academic lounge. The primary weapon used by our blood enemies is the Big Lie."

News media need to get their facts straight before they report!

http://www.businessinsider.com/assault-rifle-weapon-ar-15-2013-11

So here are the specs on the most popular, and controversial rifle in America:

— It fires a 5.56mm, or .223 caliber bullet. It's a small round that moves very quickly, increasing the weapon's maximum effective range. Despite its small size, the round is tremendously lethal.  - TRUTH: The 5.56×45mm cartridge with the standard 62 gr. steel core bullets will penetrate approximately 15 to 20 in (38 to 51 cm) into soft tissue in ideal circumstances.

— The round moves at a rate of nearly 3,200 feet per second.  TRUTH:
Barrel length SS109/M855 V4 bullet velocity
210 mm (8.3 in) 723 m/s (2,372 ft/s)
240 mm (9.4 in) 764 m/s (2,507 ft/s)
270 mm (10.6 in) 796 m/s (2,612 ft/s)
300 mm (11.8 in) 825 m/s (2,707 ft/s)
330 mm (13.0 in) 843 m/s (2,766 ft/s)
360 mm (14.2 in) 866 m/s (2,841 ft/s)
390 mm (15.4 in) 878 m/s (2,881 ft/s)
420 mm (16.5 in) 892 m/s (2,927 ft/s)
450 mm (17.7 in) 906 m/s (2,972 ft/s)
480 mm (18.9 in) 915 m/s (3,002 ft/s)
508 mm (20.0 in) 922 m/s (3,025 ft/s)

— Magazines for the weapon (that are in circulation in the U.S.) range from 5 to 100 rounds. With proper training, a shooter can effectively and accurately empty a 30-round magazine in less than a minute, maybe faster.  TRUTH: Key words here are PROPER TRAINING.

— The maximum effective range is between 400 and 600 yards, depending on the barrel length, which varies depending on the model of the rifle. TRUTH: the maximum effective range is possible 550 yards (depending on the training of the shooter).

— Much of what makes the AR-15 so popular is its adaptability. Modern AR-15s feature a rail system that allows for custom sights, scopes, and accessories to be placed on the gun. TRUTH: that is correct, which makes it more suitable for hunting in different climates and weather conditions.

— AR-15s are readily available in most states. The price fluctuates with demand, and demand is often high, but it typically hovers right around $1,000.  TRUTH: average price is around $1,200.00

Very little separates a civilian AR-15 from the M-16s that are the standard-issue rifle for the American military. The military versions are semi-automatic, but also come with the ability to fire in a three-round burst; this feature is rarely used. TRUTH: Military issue fully automatic, with some available with the ability to fire in a three-round burst and some available with semi-automatic selection. The civilian AR-15 is ONLY semi-automatic. According to Michael Bane, "Well, who knew? I was handling a modern military M4A1 last Friday morning, and to my uneducated eyes it appeared to be full auto. In fact, I thought the 3-round burst went away when the M4 upgraded to the M4A1." Read more of what Michael had to say at: http://michaelbane.blogspot.com/

The Changing Face of Shooting Sports and How You Can Help

According to a recent study done by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), "the landscape of target shooters has shifted." With 20% of current shooters having taken up the sport in just the last five years, a new generation has emerged with a completely different demographic profile. The study compares established shooters (more than five years of experience) with new shooters and shows that this new wave of shooting enthusiasts is often younger, female, and urban. Here's a breakdown of the numbers: Younger: 66 percent of new shooters fall into the 18-to-34-year-old category compared to 31 percent in the same age category for established shooters. Female: 37 percent of new target shooters are female compared to 22 percent of established target shooters. Urban: 47 percent of new target shooters live in urban/suburban settings versus 34 percent of established target shooters.

How You Can Help

As a company that not only manufactures shooting range equipment but also consults with range owners on every aspect of their businesses, we try to provide the most accurate information to help them succeed. In response to the industry's shifting demographics, Action Target has created a survey to better understand the preferences of women when it comes to shooting range equipment, technology, and amenities. Take the survey here. http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e87an8jlhlpe267u/a0174hmxft2xp/questions Survey participants who qualify will receive a one-time use 20% discount to Action Target's online store. I wonder

I wonder how people can be willing to give up their rights. They do not understand that if they give them up one at a time; then they will eventually lose them all.

Everyone one wants to remain unpolitical; but life is political. You make decisions everyday that affect others. Everyone wants the freedom of the first amendment; but try to use that to support another amendment and people state it is too political to have that associate with them or their organization.

I wonder????!!!

Heizer Defense Files Lawsuit In Federal Court Against Doubletap Defense

In a continued effort to protect their product development and engineering efforts, Heizer Defense, LLC has filed a complaint in the United States District Court for ten counts. This includes declaration of inventorship and transfer of rights for patent No 8,495,831 and for the declaration of invalidity and unenforceability, or alternatively correction of inventorship and transfer of rights for design patent No. D686,685. We would expect the lawsuit to establish, among other things, that Charles Heizer, Founder of Heizer Aerospace, is an inventor for this patent. The defendants of the complaint are Doubletap Defense LLC, f/k/a Heizer Technologies, LLC; Central Holding Corp.; Raymond Kohout, and Marvin Dufner. The parties have agreed to mediation that is scheduled to take place in November. - See more at: http://www.thetacticalwire.com/story/301341#sthash.yNDaIEx7.dpuf

Senator Moran Circulates Letter to Repudiate the UN Small Arms Treaty

“[GOA’s Larry] Pratt also contends that the U.N. has a terrible track record in protecting human life. He said the horrors in Rwanda are a perfect example of why the U.N. has no business deciding who should and should not have access to guns.” -- WorldNetDaily, June 2013

When you’re dealing with an adversary who hates the 2nd Amendment as much as Barack Obama, you have to fight attacks coming from several different directions.

We know we’ve thrown a lot at you lately. But there’s one other issue we’d like to bring to your attention.

As you know, the Obama administration recently signed the virulently anti-gun UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Although purporting to regulate international trade in arms, the treaty empowers anti-gun administrations (such as Barack Obama’s) to institute internal gun control, including gun bans, gun registration, and more.  In fact, the drafters of the treaty made no secret of their goal of imposing measures such as microstamping on countries like the United States.

GOA’s legislative counsel has done a word-by-word analysis of the treaty.  If left unchecked, the treaty language will give rise a wide ranging series of gun control restrictions, as mentioned above.

ATF e-Forms System Going Dark for the Duration

Federal shutdown. This service will remain offline during the duration of the shutdown. As we reported Monday: The FBI's NICS Section is maintaining normal business hours. The ATF Office of Enforcement Programs and Services (EPS), which includes the imports, firearms technology, NFA branches, the licensing center and firearms industry programs branch now processing marking variances, is effectively shut down, operating with minimal staff. The State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) is accepting licenses, but only acting on them in genuine emergency situations. The Commerce Department Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is no longer accepting export license applications, classification requests (CCATS), encryption reviews, encryption registrations or advisory opinion requests. Similarly, BIS will not be issuing any final determinations. All pending export license applications, commodity classification requests, encryption reviews, encryption registrations and advisory opinion requests will be held without action by BIS until the shutdown ends. NSSF will continue to update the industry as additional details on the government shutdown become available. - See more at: http://www.thetacticalwire.com/story/301291#sthash.p19tet5J.dpuf

Taurus Model 738 TCP – .380 Concealed Carry – Reviews from Women

There are a lot of guns in the market that gun nuts take for granted. They are basically good guns that have been around for a long time and sell a ton, yet they are really nothing special. But with all of the new shooters coming into the market, particularly women shooters, some old and extremely average guns are developing a dedicated following because they work, they fit great, and they are not expensive. Never one for big headlines, the Taurus TCP, also known as the Model 738, is a 10.2 ounce .380 6+1 that is carried by thousands of people every day, yet you rarely if ever see an interesting review or article on the gun. It is the lightest Taurus ever made, and since the arrival at Taurus of Mark Kresser and a new focus on consistency and quality control, the Taurus TCP deserves a fresh look. We asked our resident girl guru Carrie Lightfoot from The Well Armed Womanto take the gun for a spell, and have her whole crew shoot it and let us know what they think. Overall the gun did really well in the eyes of these very critical ladies, and they felt that the TCP was designed to be “just right” for the woman shooter.

DoubleTap Defense .45ACP Pocket Derringer – New Gun Review

The DoubleTap Tactical Pocket Pistol is an over/under break action derringer capable of delivering two rounds of 9 mm or .45ACP as fast as you can pull the trigger. It is sold as a simple and rugged option for deep concealment or backup. Make no mistake, this is not a range gun or plinker. It’s designed for one purpose and one purpose only – saving your life.

The .45ACP is no kitten when it comes to recoil, and even though your followup shots are limited to one in the two shot pistol, an “ouch that hurts” after the first shot wouldn’t be the ideal in a concealed carry pistol. There are a lot of perfectly good pocket pistols on the market, and this gun has several red flags, as well as some outright user discomfort. At an MSRP starting at $499 for a two shot derringer, do we really need the DoubleTap?

Modern Spartan Systems Unveils "Spartan Accuracy Oil"

Modern Spartan Systems LLC., manufacturer of today's most technologically advanced firearms cleaners and lubricants, has unveiled Spartan Accuracy Oil, the first offering in a bold new system of products designed to extend the life of your firearms and increase their functionality in terms of Accuracy, Reliability, and Performance.

Bold claims from a new company are nothing new to the shooting industry. MSS backs those claims with proven performance! Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jez_qiEOD_w
and watch as Spartan Accuracy Oil destroys the competition in head-to-head laboratory testing! Spartan Accuracy Oil brings new technology and a completely new outlook to firearms maintenance and optimization.

Friction is the number one enemy inhibiting shooting performance. The traditional battle against friction has been waged using surface oils, which create a slippery wedge between two metal objects. At best, friction is minimally reduced and lasts only for a few shots before high pressures and temperatures carbonize, remove and nullify the lubricant. The intended goals are simply short lasting and contribute to the build-up of contaminants inside the firearm, which can ultimately cause malfunctions. Spartan Accuracy Oil from MSS uses a unique technology to defeat friction; thereby improving your accuracy and reducing malfunctions on any weapon system.

The proprietary formula uses Nano Shield™ molecular particles with heat activation to penetrate and fill in pores and gaps in the metal substrate. Effectively, microscopic mountains are reduced to flat plains, minimizing the points of contact. The smoother, harder surface has been shown to reduce friction by up to an astonishing 85-90%. Whether during a hunt, at a competition or in the heat of battle, Spartan Accuracy Oil can make a critical difference to you - the shooter, and an even more critical difference to the target!
Spartan Accuracy Oil - Features and Benefits
• Improved shooting consistency & accuracy (lowers standard deviation and spread rate)
• Fewer malfunctions and more reliable performance
• Reduced gumming of sand and dirt
• Unaffected by temperature (Middle-East highs of 115°+ to Alaskan lows of -52°)
• Environmentally friendly
• Superior corrosion protection
• Increased muzzle velocity
• Smoother overall action
• Lower barrel temperatures (up to 30%+ )
• Easier and faster cleaning (50-75% less clean-up time due to minimal carbon buildup)

PETA Says ‘Pay Back is Hell’ to Injured Hunter

After Utah hunter Bradly Greenwood slipped and was gored by an elk he had just shot, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is saying “Payback is hell” through the use of a graphic billboard ad. On September 7, Greenwood was attempting to move his elk when he slipped, falling on the antlers of the elk.  An antler impaled his face and neck, causing Greenwood to struggle to breath, according to mydailynews.com. Greenwood is recovering in a Utah hospital; however, PETA feels this is the appropriate time to display an image of a large elk with blood dripping from the antlers. The graphic image is partnered with the text: “Payback is Hell. Leave animals alone”. PETA plans to place the ad in Vernal, Utah – the town that was located 30 miles from where Greenwood was injured. - See more at: http://www.ussportsmen.org/antis/peta-says-pay-back-is-hell-to-injured-hunter/#sthash.EOXI9lGY.dpuf

First Retail Store Fur Ban Goes into Effect in West Hollywood - See more at: http://www.ussportsmen.org/antis/first-retail-store-fur-ban-goes-into-effect-in-west-hollywood/#sthash.z5VdyW2A.dpuf

Animal rights activists under the name “Fur Free West Hollywood” have succeeded in a campaign to ban the sale of fur in all West Hollywood retail stores.  Beginning Saturday, September 21, 2013, West Hollywood retailers will become the only city in the U.S where it is illegal to sell clothing made with fur. Retailers in West Hollywood will be given citations if caught selling fur items by the Code Compliance Department, according to California Apparel News.  A ticket for a first offense will cost $200 with a $50 administrative fee, second offense $400 with the $50 administrative fee and a third offense would be $800. Three tickets in a calendar year could result in a misdemeanor for the shopkeeper. The ban will specifically prohibit retailers from selling clothing made with fur, even small items such as gloves, hats, scarves and boots.  Fur trimming on such items will also fall under this ban. This is just the beginning for animal rights activists, as Fur Free West Hollywood is pushing their agenda on other cities. - See more at: http://www.ussportsmen.org/antis/first-retail-store-fur-ban-goes-into-effect-in-west-hollywood/#sthash.z5VdyW2A.dpuf

Otis Technology Launches New One-Pass Gun Cleaning Tool

Otis Technology is pleased to offer a new addition to their gun care product line - the Ripcord™. The Ripcord™ is the fastest, most effective, one-pass clean available. Composed of heat resistant Nomex® fibers braided over a molded rubberized core/cable combination, the Ripcord™ offers the ability to clean firearms properly from Breech-to-Muzzle® in one quick and easy pass.

he Nomex® material acts as both a brush to loosen and a patch to capture fouling particles. The molded rubberized core keeps the Nomex® cleaning surface pressed against the bore, ensuring an aggressive all-around cleaning. Additionally, the core is a helix shape, which helps engage the rifling throughout the length of the barrel. Some added features to this one-pass cleaning tool are its ability to act as an obstruction remover for jammed cases and other blockages, and its 8-32 threaded ends for accommodating additional Otis cleaning components, if desired. - See more at: http://www.shootingwire.com/story/298780#sthash.hwbYMoQF.dpuf

Illinois Supreme Court Rules Section of State Gun Law Violates Constitution

It only seems appropriate on the day feared by Triskaidekaphobians and the Voyager spacecraft finally leaves our solar system to report that the Illinois Supreme Court has issued a pair of rulings expanding gun rights for state residents. In People v. Aguilar, the court tossed the arrest of a man in his friend's yard in Chicago because he was holding a pistol. "if Heller means what it says, the ruling reads, "and "individual self-defense" is indeed the "central component" of the second amendment right to keep and bear arms, then it would would make little sense to restrict that right to the home." That might provide an incentive for the Illinois State Police to maybe move a bit faster on concealed carry licensing. The second ruling in Coram v. Illinois found that a state statute regarding aggravated unlawful use of weapons also violated the Second Amendment.

New Long Range Wireless Marksmanship System

OutWest Systems, Inc.- Renowned for their line of advanced high-tech LASER and live fire (and super long range optic cable) firearm training systems is pleased to announce the release of their OCAT Long Range Wireless System. Problem: When firing at targets much over 300 yards it can be difficult to see bullet holes or round impact. This is especially true if the shooter does not have a spotter watching the shots as fired. And at ranges much beyond this having a spotter or not it is nearly impossible to reliably see the hits and misses especially under recoil. Solution: OCAT System's Long Range Marksmanship System solves this! - See more at: http://www.thetacticalwire.com/story/297439#sthash.6S6rd0Ui.dpuf

Springfield Armory Initiates Recall on 3.3 XD-S 9mm and 3.3 XD-S .45 ACP

Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur. For information, see Springfield Recall Registration.

Smith & Wesson Issues Safety Alert and Inspection Procedure for M&P Shield Pistols

- See more at: http://www.shootingwire.com/story/296853#sthash.l4jam9MN.dpuf

Smith & Wesson Corp. announced today that the Company has identified a condition where the trigger bar pin could damage the lower trigger in certain M&P Shields in a way that may affect the functionality of the drop safety feature of the firearm, potentially allowing the pistol to discharge if it is dropped.

This Safety Alert applies to all M&P Shield pistols manufactured before August 19, 2013. We believe this condition is largely limited to recently manufactured M&P Shield pistols. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are asking all consumers of all M&P Shields manufactured before August 19, 2013 to immediately inspect their pistols for this condition.

Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury, and we ask that you STOP USING YOUR PISTOL IMMEDIATELY UNTIL IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND, IF THE CONDITION IS FOUND, REPAIRED.

To determine whether your firearm was manufactured before August 19, 2013 and to receive video instructions for inspection, please go to MPShieldSafetyAlert.com. All firearms must be inspected to determine whether it exhibits the condition identified in this notice. You can also find this information on our website at www.smith-wesson.com under the product safety button.

If you are uncomfortable conducting the inspection outlined above, or are unsure whether the condition described in this notice applies to your firearm, please take your firearm to your local M&P Certified Armorer or send your firearm to Smith & Wesson for inspection. M&P Armorers can be found on the smith-wesson.com website under the Find a Dealer tab.

If after inspection it is determined that the condition outlined in this safety alert exists, the firearm must be sent to Smith & Wesson for repair. If your firearm is affected by the condition outlined in this notice, please send your pistol to Smith & Wesson. Your firearm will be inspected, and if necessary, repaired at no cost to you. Your firearm will be returned within 5 to 7 business days. All shipping and repair costs will be covered by Smith & Wesson.

Please contact Smith & Wesson directly at 877-899-6259, or at MPShieldSafetyAlert.com to arrange for the repair, if necessary, of your pistol.

Bushnell Tactical Adds Four New Models to its Extended Range Riflescope Series

from http://www.thetacticalwire.com/story/296730

Bushnell Outdoor Products, an industry-leader in high performance sports optics for 65 years, has introduced the next generation of its Elite Tactical 3.5-21x 50mm extended range riflescope (ERS). The scope, part of the Bushnell Elite Tactical ERS series, is designed for fast and accurate target acquisition and available with three reticle options: Horus H59 or TreMoR2 and the G2DMR. With the potential to acquire targets at extended ranges with the ERS, Bushnell has increased the side parallax adjustment range and incorporated its new Z-Lok locking elevation turret, which has .1 mil clicks and 10 mil revolutions. In addition, the new Z-Lok features a zero stop that allows the shooter to preset the zero and avoid the possibility of dialing below zero. Because windage adjustments require less dialing, the T-Lok turret is used on the windage knob and can be quickly lifted for adjustments when conditions change and instantly locked into place by depressing the turret to its standard position. - See more at: http://www.thetacticalwire.com/story/296730#sthash.31eMxz5t.dpuf

NJ Second Amendment Groups Issue Warning to State Assembly

The New Jersey Second Amendment Society, together with other Garden State based Second Amendment -related organizations has served legal notice on Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver. This warning states that impending action on several firearm-related bills would be invalid and subject to legal challenge as a result of illegal vote-rigging in an Assembly committee earlier this month. The rules that have been violated are as follows:

Assembly Rule 12:3: After a roll call vote has commenced, no motion is in order until the results are announced by the Speaker.
Assembly Rule 10:6: Each committee may adopt rules for its operation and conduct of business, including rules governing the operation and conduct of any subcommittee, provided the rules are consistent with these rules.
Assembly Rule 10:22. Bills and resolutions reported by any committee in violation of these rules shall not be considered for third reading or final action.

On June 6, 2013, during a hearing of the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee, a gun control package (bill A4182) failed during the roll call vote. Committee Chairman Charles Mainor aborted the roll call vote after 9 of 11 votes had been cast. NJ Assembly rule 12:3 states that once a roll call vote begins, no further action can be taken until the results are announced. Instead of completing the vote, ASM Mainor announced he was holding the bill, despite Republican committee members' objections.

Nevada Saved!

Governor Sandoval vetoed the Universal Background Check bill yesterday, and now, the anti-gun Left is in full-mourning.

The Associated Press reports that, “It is a significant defeat for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control advocacy group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns [MAIG]. The organization spent hundreds of thousands of dollars working to get the bill passed through to the governor.”

Nevada is a key state as it is home to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) and to “swing vote” Senator Dean Heller (R).  Defeating Universal Background Checks in the Silver State -- with overwhelming numbers of callers opposing it -- sends a powerful message from a Purple State, that Americans do NOT want additional gun control!

Dirty Tricks in Nevada!

Dirty Tricks in Nevada!
This from Tom Gresham a few minutes ago:

Michael:

The National Association for Gun Rights is going with a Chicago-style dirty tricks campaign.
They are robo calling Nevada gun owners with a call that sounds as though it is strongly pro-gun.  It then gives out the phone number of the governor's office, and says to press 1, then press 3 to be connected.
Except !!! pressing 1 is a vote in favor of SB211, and not to oppose it.
Call this number to hear the recording.  775-671-3057
Let's get the word out.
Tom
Here's a quick summation from the Mr. Conservative blog...essentially Republican Governor Brian Sandoval had asked whether he should veto the onerous universal background check law passed in Nevada (as opposed to, say, Colorado Governor John Hickenstoopid, who only called Michael Bloomberg and asked his opinion on the Colorado laws):
While Washington may be ignoring you, your voice can still be heard, at least at the state level. Although Nevada’s Republican governor Brian Sandoval had already announced that he intended to veto the Nevada legislature’s “universal background check” bill, thousands of citizens called the governor’s office to make sure that he kept his word.
Once the NRA sent out an alert notifying Nevada citizens that their legislature had passed a universal background check bill that would force people to pay $30 for a background check before claiming their gun, 2,200 people called the governor’s office this past Wednesday to protest. There were so many calls that the Governor’s office set up an emergency automated phone system allow callers to push a button to show whether their call was for or against universal background checks in Nevada. So far, 80% of the calls were in the “nay” column.
Hey, the Chicago Way says when the vote goes against you, lie, cheat and try to steal it!

25 Shot, 6 Dead in NYC and Bloomberg Says Gun Control Agenda Works?

from: http://www.shootingwire.com/story/289963

Six dead and more than two dozen shootings in New York City over the weekend is a sign that Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun agenda - which he hopes to spread across the nation with his big bucks campaigns to buy away the gun rights of American citizens - is beginning to fail, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

"Michael Bloomberg wants to use his wealth to buy Big Apple gun control all over the country," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "Despite reports that New York City violence is actually down from last year, over the weekend, that city accounted for half of the slayings that Seattle has seen so far for the entire first five months of the year.

"Before Bloomberg spends another million dollars trying to spread his program of gun prohibition," he added, "the mayor ought to concentrate on his own turf and leave the rest of the nation alone."

A story about the violent weekend held an important revelation about gun control that Gottlieb said has been overlooked. Yahoo News noted, "New York recently became the first state to pass major gun control legislation since the Dec. 14 shootings in Newtown, Conn. The bill that Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law in January both strengthens the state's existing assault weapons ban and introduces new mental health regulations for potential gun owners. None of that did much to help...a seventh-grader at Middle School 302 in the Bronx and one of three girls to be caught in the line of fire over the last few weeks."

"That says it all about Bloomberg-style gun control," Gottlieb observed. "Fat cats like Bloomberg can push all the anti-gun nonsense their wallets can handle, but while their efforts crack down on law-abiding citizens, they won't stop a single criminal from committing a heinous crime.

"Anti-gunners always complain about the 'Wild West'," he noted, "but it looks more and more like the real wild places are cities like Bloomberg's New York, where law-abiding citizens are hard put to own, much less carry firearms for self-defense thanks to the elitist gun laws backed by the billionaire mayor that have consistently disarmed good people while not affecting the bad ones."

DoubleStar C3 (Constant Carry Carbine)

From: http://michaelbane.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-diana-degette-must-read.html

I just started working with the DoubleStar C3 (Constant Carry Carbine) on 50-yard drills with the irons (Magpul MBUS). I love this gun! You throw it up to your shoulder and run it.

The short 7-inch Ace stock takes about 5 minutes to get used to...especially if you're used to reach way far out there on a mid-length handguard. At 5.5 pounds, the C3 is like running a big pistol. I didn't do any of the stuff you're supposed to do with a new gun...I didn't take it apart, meticulously measure each part, blah blah. I took it out of the box, sprayed some Ballistol on the bolt and cranked it up with Corbon match 55-grainers (my last 100 of those particularly wonderful rounds). Sights were a little low at 50, but there's an Aimpoint Micro in this baby's future (yes, I have old eyes!). The only other thing I'd add is a sling, maybe Kyle Lamb's lightweight bungee sling.

Is the C3 to do-all and be-all of ARs? Of course not. But I believe the C3 perfectly fills the niche of car/travel rifle (a niche I've been filling with a Rock River Arms LAR-PDS AR-15 pistol).

The Urban Rifle

From: http://michaelbane.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-urban-rifle.html

NJ Larry comment to my discussing the DoubleStar C3 as an "urban rifle:"

Can you pls describe the use of a rifle for "urban carry"? Also can you quantify and document the actual incidents where this is used in the USA on a yearly basis?

Actually a pretty good question. First, you're going to have to grant that I'm paranoid. D'uh! Well, I prefer to think that I'm a realist and that much of my personal philosophy is based on a song by Jim Morrison:

Well, I woke up this morning, I got myself a beer
Well, I woke up this morning, and I got myself a beer
The future's uncertain, and the end is always near

The Diana DeGette Guide to Gun Safety

From: http://www.rockymountainright.com/?q=diana-degette-guide-gun-safety

By Rep. Diana DeGette

In light of the on-going gun debate, as a service to my constituents I have drafted a quick guide to gun safety. It explains how guns work as I understand it and offers some commonsense tips.

At right, you can see a diagram of a magazine.
Magazines are ammunition, they’re bullets. If you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.

This is a diagram of an AR-15. Guns work by using the spring in the magazine to detonate the black powder inside the long tube at the end. The proton pack generates a powerful electromagnetic field that helps propel the bullet down the tube where it then exits and murders someone. Sometimes people murder each other with shotguns, which are similar to the AR-15 but have laser sights and vent holes.

Wait till you read her safety tips - OMG -  http://www.rockymountainright.com/?q=diana-degette-guide-gun-safety
