Hearings On Target Range Bill

The Senate Environment and Public Works subcommittee will hold a hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, April 24, at 10:15 a.m., on several bills important to sportsmen and sprotswomen, including NSSF's priority this legislative session--S. 1249, the Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act. The bill, introduced by Senator Mark Udall (D-CO), would allow states to expand their use of Pittman-Robertson funds to develop or expand public target shooting facilities. Amending the restrictions on Pittman-Robertson funds for this purpose is long overdue. More public shooting ranges are needed throughout the country to accommodate the rapidly growing number of target shooters who contribute to P-R funding through purchases of firearms and ammunition. Learn more about this bill and write your senators to support it.

Light & Laser

For the past several months, I've been toying with the S&W M&P40 fitted up with Crimson Trace Corporation's LaserGrip LG-660 and LightGuard LTG-760.

We're familiar with the LaserGrip for M&Ps. We simply remove the existing palm swell/backstrap unit and replace it with the LaserGrip. For this M&P40, which has been around here since the line was introduced, I set the Laser's zero to be at the top of the front sight at about 20 feet. As it's a red laser, easily visible in dim light but not outstanding in daylight, I'm more concerned with indoor distances.

The pair of laser controls is at the rear. The master ON/OFF is the bottom button and, for me, requires the use of a tool to get it pressed. The upper switch is the activation pad. The LightGuard is trim, no wider than the host pistol, has a master ON/OFF switch on the front of the unit at the bottom. A strip runs from the unit under the trigger guard to the front strap of the grip frame. The activation pad is there.

Tactical Bacon

OMG

This falls under the category of either the most absurd thing you've ever heard of, or pure genius. Of course, when it comes to bacon one should always give the benefit of the doubt in favor of pure genius. CMMG had this stack of cans in their booth. A 9oz can of Tactical Bacon sells for $17.99 and features 54 slices of cooked bacon rendered down from three pounds.

Bar shooting: "No guns" sign fails to save the day

by Jeff Thomas

One of those magical signs that stops anyone with a gun from entering.

The sign's great powers were set up to keep people from bringing guns into any place posting it - the anti-gunners' version of kryptonite.

Criminals check your gun into your glove box before entering. And by the way, for all the robbers out there: if your mask blocked your vision on the way in and you missed the sign, should the business owner point to it, the Bloomberg rules dictate you must put your gun away, apologize and quietly walk out trying not to disturb anyone.

The fact of the matter is four people were shot on April 1, inside this bar in Lima, Ohio, that posted this sign. No one died and by local media accounts, all will survive.

First Aid Gear For The Range Bag

Great article by Adnrew Tushy

Available from DownRange.TV

Whether you’re setting up a medical kit for the first time or you’ve already bought one, there are a few things that are probably not at the front of your mind. I’ll start from the top in terms of life-saving importance.

Having a Plan
Emergencies, by definition, occur when they are not expected. Getting over the shock that something bad has happened can take time – often too much time. The sooner you call for help, the better off the injured person will be. But before the paramedics arrive, you need to take effective action. In order to do that, you should have a plan in place for how to respond to an emergency. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
