Of these, 27 law enforcement officers died as a result of felonious acts, and 49 officers died in accidents. In addition, 49,851 officers were victims of line-of-duty assaults. Comprehensive data tables about these incidents and brief narratives describing the fatal attacks and selected assaults resulting in injury are included in the 2013 edition of Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, released today.

Felonious Deaths
The 27 felonious deaths occurred in 16 states. The number of officers killed as a result of criminal acts in 2013 decreased by 22 when compared with the 49 officers who were feloniously killed in 2012. The five- and 10-year comparisons show a decrease of 21 felonious deaths compared with the 2009 figure (48 officers) and a decrease of 30 deaths compared with 2004 data (57 officers).

Officer Profiles: The average age of the officers who were feloniously killed was 39 years. The victim officers had served in law enforcement for an average of 13 years at the time of the fatal incidents. Twenty-five of the officers were male, and two were female. Twenty-five of the officers were white, and two were black.

Circumstances: Of the 27 officers feloniously killed, six were killed in arrest situations, five were investigating suspicious persons or circumstances, five were ambushed, four were involved in tactical situations, four were answering disturbance calls, and two were conducting traffic pursuits/stops. One was conducting an investigative activity, such as surveillance, a search, or an interview.

Weapons: Offenders used firearms to kill 26 of the 27 victim officers. Of these 26 officers, 18 were slain with handguns, five with rifles, and three with shotguns. One officer was killed with a vehicle used as a weapon.

Military and A Prayer

This hit home because there were times when family and friends was the one being prayed for.

My love and prayers go out to you and all the military and all the vets and especially their families. It is not easy being in the military. It's just as hard sitting at home waiting and and not knowing.

Prayer request

ACLU has filed a suit to end prayer from the military completely. They're making great progress.. The Navy Chaplains can no longer mention Jesus' name in prayer thanks to the ACLU and others.

Do not breaking this one

Please send this on after a short prayer
Dear Lord,
Hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them & their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. In Jesus' name,

Update from Michael Bane

Ruger On The Record

Just to clear things up...from Mike Fifer, CEO of Ruger, on an article circulating on numerous media outlets and firearm blogs suggesting that Ruger gave a"war  reception" to the antigun clown show seeking to promote smart guns:.

Our General Counsel met them inside our front entryway, said I was not present (I was actually out of the building at a meeting when they showed up), accepted their envelope addressed to me, said goodbye to them and that was the end of it. They left.

Perhaps "warm reception" is a relative description. While we disagree with their methods and specifics, there is little to be gained by being rude to them (which they might have preferred, given that they had Channel 3 news cameras with them). They also behaved well, did not make a fuss, and quietly left. It was a non-event, in spite of their goal of gaining publicity.
Best regards,
Mike Fifer
p.s. Feel free to post my reply.
And let me add my own comment:

GOOD LORD! YOU BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE INTERNET?

Take a moment to say THANK YOU!

Take a minute to say THANK YOU!

An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as "Armistice Day." Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I, but in 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation (Public Law 380) on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

Marine Dad Banned From School Over Five Pillars Of Islam Essay Protest

A Marine dad was banned from school over a “Five Pillars of Islam” essay assignment at La Plata High School in Maryland. Marine dad, Kevin Wood, an Iraq war veteran, said his daughter’s class was issued a mandatory assignment regarding the Islam religion. When he asked for an alternate homework assignment not related to the Muslim religion, he was reportedly banned from going to his daughter’s school ever again.

The La Plata High School juniors were told to write a three-page essay about the five pillars of Islam, detailing the beliefs and practices of the religion as well as being instructed to include information about the prophet Mohammed and Mecca.

The Marine Corps veteran said, “I don’t agree with it. You can’t study God or Christianity in school. You’ve got atheists suing schools for saying ‘God’ in the pledge and not being able to say prayers before football games, but we can force-feed our kids Islam.”

The Marine dad said when he discussed the Islamic essay with school officials in Maryland the La Plata High School administrators defended the five pillars essay and refused to permit his daughter to complete an assignment on a different topic.

Pro-gun doctor debunks American Psychological Association's anti-gun report

Psychologists on Guns
by Robert B.Young, MD

“People with guns kill people” is an apparently sensible heading for a report on “gun violence” by a professional organization that regards firearms as dangers for which availability and access should be restricted.  Gun Violence: Prediction, Prevention, and Policy was presented in August by the American Psychological Association (APA) at its annual meeting.  It rightly calls attention to the need to understand factors in development, community, culture and gender that are associated with more or less likelihood of people resorting to lethal violence.  Yet it also veers far away from the APA’s expertise in psychology, and the focus on violence-by-gun invites broader questions about the role of gun use within violence overall.  The authors and references are largely drawn from gun control proponents without regard to research that shows how more guns in the right hands can minimize violence.

It’s good to read that “exposure to violent media, in movies and television, is associated with increased aggressive behaviors, aggressive thoughts and feelings, increased physiological arousal, and decreased prosocial behaviors”.  This is a topic the mainstream media religiously avoids, but that all parents know matters.
