Interesting Information

From: John Richardson

Richard Pearson, Executive Director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, had this advice in his ISRA Thursday Bulletin. I consider them to be very wise words from someone who has been fighting in the trenches for gun rights for a long time.

As you are aware gun owners have been taking a pounding from the anti-gunners and their allies- the main stream media. Those two groups have declared war on gun owners and we will be maligned, degraded, demonized, and bullied in an effort to turn one group of gun owners against another. Don’t fall for it. I am a strong believer in the Farmer Doctrine.

The Farmer Doctrine was adopted at the first Gun Rights Policy Conference in 1985. The Farmer Doctrine is patterned after the NATO Doctrine. The Farmer Doctrine is as follows: Be it resolved that an attack one group of guns and gun owners shall be considered an attack on all guns and gun owners. Therefore we should all rise to the defense of each other.

Forbes Article: To Protect The Innocent, We Need More Guns In The Hands Of Honest People

from: http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/12/26/to-protect-the-innocent-we-need-more-guns-in-the-hands-of-honest-people/

By Andrew Bernstein

The increased call for gun control after the Newtown, Connecticut atrocity is as mistaken as it is predictable.

Morally, it is the inalienable right of honest men and women to own guns for any reason they choose— hunting, collecting, and above all, self-defense. In a free society, based on the principle of inalienable individual rights, the state must not be granted the power to violate the rights of honest individuals.

Practically, empirical data and a modicum of reasoning combine to show that increased gun ownership by honest persons—not the converse—is the means to protect innocent lives.

First: it is impossible—not difficult, but impossible—to prevent criminals from procuring weapons. For example, cities with stringent handgun bans—New York, Chicago, Detroit, Washington, DC—suffer from high rates of handgun crimes.

Wayne LaPierre

Today I went to Capitol Hill to deliver a message that every American needs to hear.

http://nranews.com/pressconferencereplay.html

National School Shield Program

Wayne LaPierre announced that he has appointed former Congressman, DEA Administrator and Dept. of Homeland Security official Asa Hutchinson as the new director of the NRA Education And Training Emergency Response Program.

The following is a partial transcript of Mr. Hutchinson’s remarks:

One of the first responsibilities I learned at Homeland Security was the importance of protecting our nation’s critical infrastructure.  And there is nothing more critical to our nation’s well being than our children’s safety.

I took this assignment on one condition:  That my team of experts will be independent and will be guided solely by what are the best security solutions for the safety of our children while at school.

First, it would be based on a model security plan … a comprehensive strategy for school security based on the latest, most up-to-date technical information from the foremost experts in their fields.

This model security plan will serve as a template … a set of best practices, principles and guidelines that every school in America can tweak, if needed, and tailor to their own set of circumstances.

Every school and community is deterrent, but this model security plan will allow every school to choose among its various components to develop a school safety strategy that ts their own unique situation, whether it’s a large urban school … a small rural school, or anything in-between.

Armed, trained, qualified school security personnel will be one element of that plan, but by no means the only element.

The second point I want to make is that this will be a program that doesn’t depend on massive funding from local authorities or the federal government. Instead, it’ll make use of local volunteers serving in their own communities.

The National Rifle Association is the natural, obvious choice to sponsor this program. Their gun safety, marksmanship and hunter education programs have set the standard for well over a century. Over the past 25 years, their Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program has taught over 26 million kids that real guns aren’t toys … and today, child gun accidents are at the lowest levels ever recorded.

School safety is a complex issue with no simple, single solution. But I believe trained, qualified, armed security is one key component among many that can provide the first line of deterrence as well as the last line of defense.

Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) announced they have launched a pilot program to provide firearm training to teachers free of charge.

The announcement was made at a Town Hall Meeting at Ohio State University Thursday evening where participants debated the gun control issue in light of the recent mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

Ken Hanson, BFA's Legal Chair, made the announcement, saying, "Teachers and school board members have been asking us for years about training to prepare for an incident like Sandy Hook. So our educational Foundation will sponsor an Armed Teacher Pilot Program for a comprehensive 3-day training class at Tactical Defense Institute in West Union, Ohio. Based on the response to this pilot program, we will roll out classes to other training facilities."

The program will begin by accepting 24 teachers. All expenses, including class tuition, ammunition, and lodging (which are expected to total approximately $1,000 per teacher), will be paid by Buckeye Firearms Foundation and outside donations. Officials will be invited to attend the class at no cost to help develop appropriate training guidelines.

"The long-term goal is to develop a standard Armed Teacher curriculum and make the training available to any teacher or school official," said Hanson. "To begin, we will use funds from our educational foundation and solicit donations from corporations to pay for the pilot program. Going forward, we will seek funding from a variety of sources to expand the program."

BFA's educational foundation is finalizing details of the Armed Teacher Pilot Program and will provide further details as the program takes shape.

Great Words

From: hickok45

"Remember that every single adult has access to "killing tools" of various sorts. Most women have the tools to be prostitutes, and most men the tools to be rapists. 99.9% are neither, of course. The instrument of "good" is the mind, as it is for "evil." Try not to let emotion cloud common sense!"

Gun Control Laws to Blame For California’s Rise in Crime

Read more: http://godfatherpolitics.com/8348/gun-control-laws-to-blame-for-californias-rise-in-crime/?goback=%2Egde_89220_member_192438726

The city of San Bernardino is feeling the effects of California’s restrictive gun laws. The 50% increase in crime compared to last year is being blamed on a dwindling police force that’s being subjected to cuts because of the city’s bankruptcy. That may be part of it because people have perhaps grown dependent on the police to provide protection. But California’s gun control laws are some of the worst in the nation.
In order to get a carry concealed weapon license (CCW), you have to convince the police department in your interview with them that you actually have “good cause” to carry a gun. Saying that you need one for general self-defense is not good enough. Your life has to be in imminent danger, and you have to be able to prove it to them.
Out of the 2 million residents in San Bernardino County (San Bernardino city sits in the southwest corner of the county), only 2,800 have been allowed CCW’s by the county’s police department.

Clackamas mall shooter faced man with concealed weapon

Nick Meli is emotionally drained.  The 22-year-old was at Clackamas Town Center with a friend and her baby when a masked man opened fire.

"I heard three shots and turned and looked at Casey and said, 'are you serious?,'" he said. The friend and baby hit the floor.  Meli, who has a concealed carry permit, positioned himself behind a pillar.

"He was working on his rifle," said Meli.  "He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side."
The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.
"As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them," he said.

Meli took cover inside a nearby store.  He never pulled the trigger.  He stands by that decision.
"I'm not beating myself up cause I didn't shoot him," said Meli.  "I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself."

THE HORROR AND THE HYENAS

from: http://guntalk.com/site51.php

While we all are still weeping at the horror and evil which visited Newtown, CT, last Friday, the hyenas wasted no time in feasting on the bodies. Before the slain children had even been removed from the school, gun control proponents were calling for sweeping new restrictions... all in the name of "we must DO something." Never mind that what they propose has been tried and has failed. No need to actually look at the record of what works and what doesn't.

When your goal is to ban guns, you follow the advice of Rahm Emanuel. "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste."

On the Sunday morning news programs, proponents of removing your gun rights lined up to toss out tired old ideas. Senator Diane Feinstein, the author of the "assault weapon ban" (AWB) which went into effect in 1994 and expired in 2004, announced that her office has been writing the new AWB for a year, and she would be introducing it the first day of the new session of Congress. I guess she was waiting until there was enough blood for her to stand in before making her announcement. Ghoulish. Difi has been smarting since 2004 when her beloved gun ban was not renewed by Congress. It is her signature bill, and she intends to make it her legacy.

We all mourn the loss of the children and the adults who died at the hands of this mentally ill person. Note, though, that mental illness does not mean someone is incapable of high-levels of thought or of planning and carrying out a complex scenario.

Running for Cover:

It’s not a shooting drill, it’s what two cable networks are doing in the wake of the Newtown Tragedy.  Discovery has canceled American Guns, the gunshop “reality series”.  No reruns will occur, in spite of what they paid for the series.  And NBC Sports Channel has jerked 3-Gun Nation off the air, effective immediately, leaving sponsors to wonder what happened to their advertising. Obviously, Outdoor Channel programming is unaffected by irrational fear of guns owned and used by honorable citizens.

More men buying guns as Christmas gifts for wives, children

from: http://www.wate.com/story/20341935/more-men-buying-guns-as-christmas-gifts-for-wives-children

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – More men are buying guns as Christmas gifts for their wives and  children.

Coal Creek Armory employees say their industry is increasingly seen as family-friendly. Sales are up roughly 20 percent from this time last year because most shoppers are men looking to purchase guns for their family.

A recent Forbes article listed guns as a top growth market nationally.

The increased awareness can be attributed to general crime, some of the mass shootings that have made national headlines, and speculation that President Obama's reelection will make it tougher to purchase guns.

In Tennessee, you are free to purchase a gun in your name and gift it to someone. It is against the law buy a gun for a felon.

Gun Control already in effect in Connecticut

from: http://www.usacarry.com/forums/general-firearm-discussion/32065-gun-control-already-effect-connecticut.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

With all the talk of “Gun Law Dialogue” the media has completely missed an important point. Connecticut already has in place all of the provisions being discussed . Purchase permits, involving screening by local, state and federal agencies is already the law. Gun show dealers have to obtain background checks. Pistol purchase permits are required at gun shows.

Everything that the media says they want done, was already done. The laws were in effect in Connecticut at the time of this shooting. Gun Control was already the law of the land in Connecticut.

All of these laws, already in force, did not stop the death of twenty small children and 6 adults.

We should be looking at gun control as having been accomplished and yet did not stop the violence.

It is entirely possible that there was nothing that anybody could have done to prevent this tragedy.

A Big Win and A Significant Loss

from: http://www.shootingwire.com/features/226879

Barring another Rube Goldberg-esque procedural nightmare to complicate the process, it seems Illinois residents may -finally- have the ability to carry concealed firearms legally. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling yesterday that struck down the state's ban on carrying a weapon in public. The judges ruled the ban was unconstitutional, but simultaneously gave the state 180 days to put their own version of a law into place.

AND

We're sad to confirm that the shooting sports and entertainment business has lost one of its best showmen.

Fast-draw and precision shooting artist Bob Munden, 70, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. According to family members, Munden was returning home to Butte from a Missoula, Montana hospital with his wife and performance partner Becky when he began complaining of chest pains.

SAF Wins Huge Victory For Carry In Illinois

from: http://www.shootingwire.com/story/275774

The Second Amendment Foundation has won a huge victory for the right to bear arms outside the home, with a ruling in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals that declares the right to self-defense is "broader than the right to have a gun in one's home."

The case of Moore v. Madigan, with Judge Richards Posner writing for the majority, gives the Illinois legislature 180 days to "craft a new gun law that will impose reasonable limitations, consistent with the public safety and the Second Amendmenton the carrying of guns in public."

Armageddon Arsenals Will Premier on Discovery's Destination America

from: http://www.shootingwire.com/story/275762

Officials from Orion Entertainment have announced that 'Armageddon Arsenals' will debut December13 at 10pm Eastern on Discovery's Destination America network. The series explores the weapons and security aspects of the massive new prepping movement, focusing on individuals and families across the country who are preparing for a variety of worst case scenarios--many of them more plausible now than ever.

"Once thought of as a fringe movement," says Orion Entertainment President Chris Dorsey, "millions of Americans now call themselves doomsday preppers and are taking extraordinary measures to plan and prepare for catastrophic events. While some viewers might find weapons caching extreme, by the end of the episode many will be asking what they should be doing to prepare. There is a lot of uncertainty and fear in the country and preppers are a manifestation of the larger national movement toward self-reliance."

The one-hour pilot features weapons preppers in Texas, Utah, and Colorado who have amassed significant arsenals but who have also created elaborate security strategies to stay safe should the unthinkable happen. As one of the featured preppers warns, "If things get really bad it won't matter how much food and water you have stored if you can't protect it."

Used To Stop A Threat, Save Your Life

Special Feature by Tom Gresham

from: http://www.thetacticalwire.com/features/226842

I was surprised that Bob Costas (hereafter to be known as CluelessCostas) went on an anti-gun rant at halftime during the December 2 Sunday Night Football broadcast. He usually, I thought, does better research than that. At least, I thought that before now. Since I don't know the facts of the stories he reports, I have always considered him to be a reliable source, but this venture into knee-jerk reaction without a shred of research makes me wonder if I've gotten the straight story from him on other issues.

His editorial took the position that if Jovan Belcher had not had a gun, he would not have been able to commit murder or suicide. This is nonsense on the face of it. Fists, feet, knives (can anyone say O.J.?) and other tools can and are used to commit murder. In fact, the FBI categorizes all those as instruments of murder in its Uniform Crime Reports.

To see CluelessCostas blithely skip into the middle of this tragedy with such shallow and demonstrably false assumptions belies his reputation as a heretofore respected reporter.

NFL Player lost Control of Himself

Looks like a NFL player want to kill and die. Even with all his money, he could not find help and learn to control himself. He made the decision to kill and then die himself.

This was his mind set. He would have done this with any tool available to him.

He wanted to KILL!

He wanted to DIE!

The 2nd amendment is not at fault.

It was a mental problem and the fact he could not control his urge to KILL and DIE!

Besides the 2nd amendment  should we not also blame the doctors, hospitals and mental help individuals?

WWP bias against firearms, knives and the firearm industry!

Does the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) have a bias against guns and gun makers? Two weeks ago that would have sounded crazy, but this week many shooters are convinced that it's true. Hundreds of hunts and shoots are held as fundraisers for the WWP, and gun companies donate to WWP for its projects. How could it be that this $185 million (2013 projected revenue) outfit could be anti-gun?

It started with a simple invitation -- I wanted someone from the Wounded Warrior Project to join me for the Veteran's Day episode of my national radio show, Tom Gresham's Gun Talk. I had no idea it would turn into a national dustup which now has the gun rights community in a turmoil -- so much so that people are burning their Wounded Warrior Project shirts.

"While we appreciate the interest in having a WWP representative on your show on Veterans Day we are not able to participate in interviews or activities with media/organizations that are related to firearms," said Ms. Coleman (Leslie Coleman, PR director for WWP) in her email.
