STAG ARMS Lands Contract With Cleveland PD

STAG ARMS is pleased to announce that the Cleveland, Ohio police department has chosen a custom configured STAG ARMS Model 2 as the official rifle of the department. The rifles are being delivered this week.

In these tough economic times, it can be difficult for officers to obtain a rifle that is both budget friendly and one that fulfills the department's needs. STAG ARMS was able to provide just that by working collaboratively with Cleveland PD to outfit the department with 100 new rifles while keeping the cost within arms reach. The result - a modified, accessorized version of the Model 2 built "from the ground up" complete with the department's logo engraved on the lower receiver. In addition, the rifles will feature an Eotech 517 sight as well as an ambidextrous safety selector.

NRA Applauds Passage of U.S. House Committee Resolution Recommending that the House Find Attorney General Holder in Contempt of Congress

from: http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/news-from-nra-ila/2012/06/nra-applauds-passage-of-us-house-committee-resolution-recommending-that-the-house-find-attorney-general-holder-in-contempt-of-congress.aspx

“The NRA fully supports this contempt resolution,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA's Institute for Legislative Action.  “The American people – including millions of NRA members and tens of millions of NRA supporters – deserve the truth, and we will support any effort that leads us to that truth.”

F & F: How High?

from msnbc.com

Just as a House Committee is expected to vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, President Barack Obama has asserted executive privilege over the documents sought by this group. NBC's Pete Williams reports.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, raised another question after the president invoked the privilege.

"Until now, everyone believed that the decisions regarding 'Fast and Furious' were confined to the Department of Justice. The White House decision to invoke executive privilege implies that White House officials were either involved in the 'Fast and Furious' operation or the cover-up that followed," said Boehner's press secretary Brendan Buck. "The administration has always insisted that wasn't the case. Were they lying, or are they now bending the law to hide the truth?"

In Fast and Furious, agents of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Arizona abandoned the agency's usual practice of intercepting all weapons they believed to be illicitly purchased. Instead, the goal of gun-walking was to track such weapons to high-level arms traffickers, who had long eluded prosecution, and to dismantle their networks.

Gun-walking has long been barred by Justice Department policy, but federal agents in Arizona experimented with it in at least two investigations during the George W. Bush administration before Fast and Furious. These experiments came as the department was under widespread criticism that the old policy of arresting every suspected low-level "straw purchaser" was still allowing tens of thousands of guns to reach Mexico. A straw purchaser is an illicit buyer of guns for others.
The agents in Arizona lost track of many of the weapons in Operation Fast and Furious. Two of the guns that "walked" in the operation were found at the scene of the slaying of U.S. border agent Brian Terry.

House Oversight Committee votes to send to House floor contempt resolution against Holder over botched Fast and Furious operation, but Rep. Issa says the attorney general can avoid the full vote if he cooperates in releasing documents.

The Justice Department has retracted a second statement made to congressional investigators in the course of their probe into the failed Operation Fast and Furious.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced the retraction Wednesday morning just as a House committee meeting considering contempt proceedings against Attorney General Eric Holder got underway.

“This is the second time in nearly seven months that the department has gotten its facts wrong about gun walking,” Grassley said in a statement. “Attorney General Holder accused Attorney General Mukasey, without producing any evidence, of having been briefed on gun walking in Wide Receiver.

Under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, DoJ documents involved in an on-going criminal investigation can only lawfully be discussed or reviewed--at the White House or at the DoJ or anywhere else--with persons lawfully involved in the criminal investigation or the administration of the criminal justice system. That leaves very few human beings outside the DoJ and inside the White House with whom Attorney General Holder or his DoJ colleagues may have lawfully discussed these documents. Certainly the president himself would be in this category.

Heaven opens it gate to Dick Seelinger

In loving memory:  Dick Seelinger   1/23/1926 - 6/17/2012

Come celebrate with us the life and times of Richard L. “Dick” Seelinger, who passed away on Sunday, June 17th, 2012. Rather than mourning his loss, Dick would rather have us share a laugh or two, recalling his fine sense of humor and his dry “aged to perfection” wit!

Dick was a consummate outdoorsman and an excellent marksman who lived in the Akron area all of his adult life. He was born in Olean, New York January 23rd, 1926 to Richard and Dorothy Seelinger. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. Dick met the love of his life (that’s his wife Rita!) where she worked at the Lyn Theater in Akron, capturing her attention by giving her his watch and then striding off to watch the movie when she asked if he had the time! On June 26th of this year, they would have been married for 59 years.

Per Dick’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service for the family has already been held. Please stop by to share your memories, Dick’s humor, and the love that Dick felt for all at his calling hours on THURSDAY June 21st, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm. at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Dick would want y’all to dress CASUALLY and wear a grin! And as always, he’ll have the coffee on for ya.

New light for the fight

By Rick Staples *

The new light is designated the TLR-1S HP, big name, big light. This thing puts out 200 lumens for 1.75 hours. When I say it is really bright, I ain't kiddin'. It is designed to be weapon mounted on long guns. It has a 50mm reflector and is the LED format so less likely to break and will last longer. Never say the word, "unbreakable" because somebody will find a way. The light is built tough but weighs only 5.3 ounces. Weight isn't such a problem if you only carry the rifle from the trunk of the car to the firing line. It IS a big issue when you carry the rifle for hours humping other necessary gear, or you are on a SWAT operation for say....13 hours or more. The TLR-1s HP puts out serious white light.

The light is powered by CR123 lithium batteries. Stream light has packaged the light with an assortment of different rail keys to make the light fit just about any railed gun out there. You can also get the light with a remote switch with a straight or coiled cord.

* Rick Staples served 35 years, 5 months and 29 days in law enforcement with a mid-sized city police department. He served in patrol, investigations, warrant service, SWAT, fugitive apprehension and training. His last eight years were spent at the Regional Police Academy as a full time trainer. He has been a "gun-guy" for over 46 years. He started his career in 1973, the "blue steel guns and wooden clubs" era

Attorney General announces First Quarter 2012 CHL statistics; New record set for first quarter applications

From: http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/8380

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine (R) has released the concealed handgun license (CHL) statistics for the first quarter of 2012. Building on the record setting fourth quarter of 2011, the first quarter of 2012 saw Ohio sheriffs issue 16,823 new licenses, a new record for the first quarter initial licenses issued. The two quarters combined for the highest two quarter combination since the first two quarters of 2009, which followed Governor Strickland's signing of Castle Doctrine and enormous improvements of Ohio gun laws and the election of Barack Obama.

This period's 27% increase over the prior year is the second quarter with double digit increases. This directly follows SB17 taking effect. Governor Kasich signed the important legislation improving restaurant and car carry rules last year. As we have seen many times in Ohio, when the law is improved, the demand for training and licenses increases.

At the end of the March, we set another all-time record of approximately 282,907 Ohio residents licensed to carry concealed firearms. The total of persons with Ohio concealed handgun licenses continues to climb above the quarter of a million mark set in the third quarter of last year and will likely approach 300,000 by the end of this year.
