Ohio Concealed Carry Bill Passes Assembly with Impressive Majority

The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) applauds the Ohio General Assembly for its overwhelming support of legislation that expands the rights of concealed carry permit holders in the Buckeye state.

If signed by Gov. John Kasich, Senate Bill 199 will expand the list of places a concealed carry permit holder can have their firearm. For example, SB 199 would allow permit holders to store their firearms in their vehicles when parked at work. Additionally, SB 199 will allow members of the military to carry concealed without a permit.

The bill overwhelmingly passed the General Assembly early Friday and now heads to the governor’s desk to await his signature.

National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in November 2016 set new records

The number of firearm-related queries to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in November 2016 set new records despite predictions that Donald Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton would diminish gun buyer demand.

The 2,561,281 NICS checks for firearms last month was the busiest November and fourth busiest month in the history of the NICS system. It also marked the 19th consecutive month that monthly checks were higher than that month in previous years.

While NICS data doesn’t precisely measure firearm sales in a given time period because checks are made for carry licenses and other reasons, it is the best available indicator of consumer demand. Indeed, sales may even be higher, since gun buyers in twenty-five states can use their carry licenses or purchase permits in lieu of a NICS background check when purchasing a firearm.

Levi Strauss stores - Boycott

According to Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh, he does not want customers who believe in the 2nd amendment and exercise their right to carry firearms.

Bergh said his letter represents a "request" rather than a "mandate" or all-out ban, but he hopes customers will honor the request and enter Levi Strauss stores unarmed. Bergh suggested that the recent terrorist attacks in Nice, Orlando and Paris played a role in the decision to make this statement.

Then of course the always accurate New York Times editorialized that the right to carry a concealed weapon is nothing more than a "myth."

Time to stop using/wearing their products!!!!

United States Concealed Carry Association Founder & President Tim Schmidt has released the following statement in response:

"The statements made by both of these organizations are irresponsible and insulting. As responsible, law-abiding gunowners, we know the powerful deterrent effect that responsible gun ownership has on criminals looking to commit acts of violence. You may not need a gun to try on a pair of jeans, but you may need one if a criminal enters the store seeking to harm you and your family. In fact, the CEO of Levi Strauss is suggesting that his stores become voluntary "gun free zones." We know that these areas can easily make innocent citizens the target of those who are hunting for unarmed victims to prey upon."
